THE GOOD CATCH

In our not-too-long-ago past, there used to be little fishing villages where the guys go out every morning and come back with their boats laden with fishies.

When they return at dusk on the rosy horizon, the women and chilluns gather round down on the strand and dance and sing, celebrating the good catch as the men unload and fold up the nets for another day.

Not sure that happens anymore, but this is how I see it if it was actual in these days and times – we all celebrate together the safe coming back of the guys, and then the cleaning and cooking of the catch.

And then we sit down around a huge long table and gobble it down like the yummy feast it is, our chilluns playing on the sandy beach, the teens sneaking off for a quick canoodle, the old-timers jawing around the fire.

And then we clean up, and prep the fish we didn’t eat for long-term storage in old fashioned ways that ensure we have food all winter through to the spring.

Seems like all we celebrate these days is my-phone-is-charged, what-movie-did-you-watch, reel-after-reel, how-to-make-money-online – and so on. Not much to dance about there. I feel very sad for humans now’days.

Maybe this will help remind you of how it feels to have a Very Good Catch!
