FOCUS

Remember when we were kids in science class, and Mr. Oswald got us all bundled up in our winter jackets and heavy boots, lined us up, and we traipsed along behind him carefully holding our new magic hand-held magnifying glasses?

Crouching down onto the fragile dried brown grass, we loudly sighed and complained. It’s cold, my knees are freezing, can’t we go inside now – our chilly misery louder than the curiosity of what on earth is he talking about?

He ignored our whining. Look, he said, watch this! And held his glass so the sun’s light became focused, concentrated, not broadly aimed any-old-where.

Suddenly, a little flicker of flame shot up under his glass!

We all gasped and cheered – right in front of us, he was making a death ray!

Possibilities and not-so-elevated intentions appeared in our minds. Grins and whispers.

Now ignoring the cold discomfort, our faces frowning, squinting eyes intent, we focused on focusing our glasses on our own patches of grass.

All at once, screams! I did it! Look! Whoa! Watch this!

Let’s try it on that book! The yard was now a science lab. 14 thrilled kids, jumping around, trying our new wondrous magic tools on everything except that brown grass.

Nothing escaped our experimentation. Hey I wonder if your sleeve would catch fire! Hey, watch out! Ouch! That hurt!

Poor Mr. Oswald had a heck of a time corralling us back into the classroom. But now we knew what focus meant.

It’s about intentional concentration.

Acting with purpose, an idea or center point of interest becoming spot-lighted in your mind. Anything less important falls away.

Like not thinking any longer about cold knees, focusing your attention on focusing the sun coming through the glass. Suddenly, scorching your boot sole becomes more important, and you put all your energy and intention into it.

So last night before I fell asleep, I found myself making lists of what I wanted to focus on this year. I made myself grab pen and paper and write them down, because it was a lot, and I knew darn well I wouldn’t remember it all come dawn.

I have a very exciting year ahead of me!

What about you?

What main thing will you aim for this year?

What actions will you take to create that?

What allies will you call on for support and energy?

Will you take a new class or course?

Will you finally write that book?

How will doing all that change your attitude, and your life?

Do you have specific protocols or methods to deal with doubt and fear?

Do you know how to transform them into creative energy?

How will following your focus help you build prosperity?

Will it mean better relationships? More money? More peace?

How will your life look in January 2027 as a result?

How will you feel?

I made another list – three main things I do that distract me. I decided to ease out of them, so I can have a more satisfying daily adventure, and not berate myself at the end of the day.

My father, a big, strapping WWII vet, always used to say to us, wake up and die right!

I never understood that until way later in life. Pay attention to the right things, so when The Mystery claims you, you can say yeah! I did my life as best I could!

I aim to do just that.

Want to come along?

Start your lists!
