DEARIE DEER CELEBRATES

Last night a fellow pattern designer said, Angela, we need to ramp up for Q4 and the holidays! My first response was inner collapse. I was surprised! Why on earth??? When I looked at the feeling I had, it was called oh-no-more-work-I’m-tired-I-don’t-have-the-energy.

That surprised me even more, because I love to draw, I love to make designs people love, and I love to share it all! WTF, right?

When I looked deeper, it was that the little girl I was in first grade who got laughed at for her funny looking horses was still afraid of being laughed at! She felt unsafe!

Even after decades of being told ooh I love that, that’s so good, how did you DO that, can I buy that?!? That belief of I’m not safe was still in there!

Well! You can assume quite rightly that I spent some valuable time tapping on that! Hugging that wee girlie, holding her on my lap, and showing her that people love what she does, love her designs, and best yet, love her!

Because it’s true, right? You all have loved me all these years! It’s so humbling and rewarding and fulfilling and makes my little heart go thumpety-thump and wet stuff fills my eyes, thinking about it!

So – all that to say yeah, Q4 is coming, and here is a sketchy sketch of a hint of a corner of a tiny clue of what’s to come. I’m gathering all my designs to see which ones can be made into wallpaper!!! Can’t you just see this one in your kid’s room?

As I said, it’s a sketch, so don’t expect perfection – but it felt so fun that I thought you’d like to see it.
