Hot Summer is over! Yay!

It’s finally cooler, and I can breathe again – at last. It’s been a very long, very hot summer. I’ve been surprised by my inability to handle the heat – I never felt like I was going to melt completely down into a flaccid puddle of sweltering, sweating hot human when I lived in Hawaii.

I suppose it was because there was pretty much always a soft breeze, the Trade winds eeching into every corner, making the air soft and comforting. And on top of that, the tropical smell permeating every atom, and how the air had a yellow hue I’ve never seen anywhere else. Can you tell I loved living there? I do miss it.

So now, I make sure to enjoy what I do have here, instead of complaining about what I’m missing, and moaning about what used-to-be.

I love the crispy air. Out my window, unseen in the twitching leaves of the enormous live oak, birdies and squirrels cavort and make a racket. They make me smile and think about how fortunate I am to live here, on the edge of the wild, where birdies and other critters are part of my life. I’m not sure I could exist for long in a concrete, steel and glass city.
